“I met a woman via an online dating site and went out with her last night. The conversation was amazing. She was laughing at my jokes,” says Justin, “But when I asked her out again today for the second date, she friend-zoned me. What went wrong?”
- What causes romantic feelings?
The fact that a woman is laughing at all your jokes and asking you questions doesn’t mean she is definitely attracted to you. She can laugh at all her friends’ jokes and ask her friends every question. But it doesn’t mean she is attracted to a friend.
A friendship is different from a romantic relationship.
In order to make a woman feel attracted, you need to have real standards. That doesn’t mean you should say “You are so special, so different from other women that I’ve met.” (This is too vague.) In fact, you would be well-advised to know your deal-breakers and have high standards. For example, if she is rude to the waitress or waiter in a restaurant, you must call her out immediately. When a woman admires you, she likes you more.
When a woman wants to meet your high standards, she is attracted to you. Therefore, if you don’t even have any real standards in the first place, she can’t feel attracted to you.

Xavier’s problem is lack of chemistry. If he doesn’t know how to show his genuine romantic intent, he can’t expect this lady to do his work for him.
Here is my advice for Xavier:
- Implement lingering and solid eye contact.
- Give the lady direct compliments.
- Stop having dinner dates and start going dancing with the lady, because a dinner date makes two people sit across the table, whereas going dancing together allows you to hold hands.
